Life with Brother

Comic

"The Monster" was originally published in Voices 11 October 2005.

I will not comment on this installment, because it's not worthy of comment.
Rather, I shall focus on a recent discovery. Several weeks after I signed up,
Life with Brother got itself lumped in with with every single fledgling
webcomic on the ComicGenesis servers and lovingly critiqued by a certain
blogger with rather high standards. I only mention this because this fellow has
apparently done the same with every other webcomic in existence, and his site is
fairly popular.

Here, I offer my response: Thank you very much. I appreciate the criticism.
Interestingly, I have taken a lot of your advice already, like getting published,
though I'm positive the teen section of the local newspaper hardly qualifies as
"published." You also mention that everything anyone makes as a teenager
automatically becomes fodder. I will not contest this claim. You also make a
statement to the effect of "avoid injokes like the plague." Aye, see, there's the
problem with having a local audience in the beginning. I liked to joke (and to
this day genuinely believe) that the number of people who ever read Life with
Brother
never went above two digits, and I am sure that it never will. Ever.
And I'm just fine with that. However, since LwB no longer has just a local
audience, I have to use the rantspace to point out the injokes for people who don't
live near me. I have no problem with that either, but that means the quality of my
writing will have to improve with leaps and bounds. I don't want both my readers
getting headaches.

Again, many thanks.
