Life with Brother

Bleah. This is getting annoying. Every single time I want to upload a comic
strip onto this thing, something decides to fight with me. Maybe I should switch
browsers or something, Internet Explorer seems to hate everything.
To celebrate my third consecutive fight with the back end, I just launched a status
thingy on twitter, so you can enjoy the contant sparring between IE6 and the ComicGenesis
servers, and it's a lot more convenient than writing a big long rant here on Notepad.
The twitter is here: www.twitter.com/lifewithbrother. Here's how I get the comic strips
to appear on the site. First, I scan the originals in, monkey with the brightness
and contrast on Picture Manager, clean 'em up on Paint (high tech, I know), hand
them back to Picture Manager for resizing (the server hates anything
over 600x600, and when they get scanned they're like 2500x2500), then back to Paint
to attach the copyright line and save the comic as a .png file (they come in as .bmp).
Yuck. I have got to find an easier way to do this.
Now I write the rant on Notepad, save it, and load everything onto the server
via the house FTP program. Since everything has a file name corresponding to the
date I want them to go up (20071028, in this case), once they're uploaded, I just sit
back, wait for the FTP program to move everything over from the workspace folder,
where I dumped everything, to the public folder, where they're supposed to go. That
is specifically the program's job. When it does that, it's only a matter of time before the
comic strip gets posted on the site. This is what will get documented on the twitter.
Unless, of course, the news I feel I must deliver is particularly earth-shattering.
Off to do other things now...
